My Five Favorite Running Accessories

Every runner needs the proper running gear from lightweight clothes to proper shoes and depending on the distance, hydration gear. However, there are some accessories I also prefer to have with me to make running safer, more comfortable, and enjoyable. In this post I will give a list of my favorite accessories to take with me running.

  1. Bone Conduction Headphones: Music Meets Safety

Lots of people like listening to music while they are exercising, prioritizing safety is also important, especially when exercising outdoors. Bone conduction headphones make it allow you to enjoy your favorite tunes and be aware of your surroundings at the same time. Unlike traditional earbuds, these headphones rest just in front of your ears, leaving your ear canals open. By using bone conduction technology, they transmit audio vibrations directly to your inner ear, leaving your ears free to hear ambient sounds like oncoming traffic or fellow runners. They also lower the risk of ear infection. The brand I would recommend is Shokz. Shokz headphones are a little bit expensive, though. If you want a cheaper alternative you can probably find some at a local sporting goods store or amazon.

2. Roo Sport: Convenience and Functionality in one.

Everyone has essentials they need to keep with them such as keys, cards, phones, etc. I don’t like how it feels when I’m running with them in my pocket. It pulls my shorts down and a few times my phone fell out. The Roo Sport is a great solution to this problem.

3. GPS Watch: The Digital Fitness Buddy

GPS smartwatches have become a very popular tool that many athletes use to keep track of their progress. They offer numerous features such as heart rate monitoring, GPS tracking, customizable training programs, real-time performance feedback, and more. They can also be helpful to maintain a goal pace and optimize your performance. There is a wide variety of GPS watches but some of the most popular brands on the market are Garmin and Coros. Though pricey, I believe they are worth it.

4. Sunglasses: Protect Your Eyes

Running in the sun has its pros and cons. While it provides a nice view of the outdoors it can be harmful to your eyes and in my case, it causes a lot of discomfort. Investing in a good pair will protect your eyes and allows you to see where you are going. I would recommend buying polarized sunglasses to reduce glare with a snug fit so they don’t fall off and break. You don’t have to buy anything fancy like Raybans or Oakleys. If you are like me it’s best to buy cheap ones. I’m always losing mine.

5. Headbands: Keep Sweat at Bay and Style On Point

Headbands can double as a fashion statement and have practice purposes for running. When you exercise you sweat a lot. (No need to thank me for stating the obvious). Sweat causes me a lot of discomfort. I started wearing headbands because while I ran sweat would get in my eyes and on my face. Wearing a headband solved this problem. My favorite brand is Junk Brands. They are comfortable, come in cool designs, and you can even customize them.

Conclusion

As an avid runner, having the gear that makes running more enjoyable also makes it easier to perform well and run regularly. From the innovative Shokz Bone Conduction Headphones that blend music and safety to the convenient Roo Sport pouch and feature-packed running watches, investing in top-quality gear is a worthy decision. Don't forget the importance of protecting your eyes with reliable sunglasses and keeping sweat at bay with functional headbands.

Remember, the best running gear isn't just about functionality but also about how it enhances your overall running experience. So, suit up with the gear that fits your needs and preferences, and embark on your running journey with confidence, comfort, and style! Happy running!
