1. Cover Electrical Outlets

Electrical outlets are like magnets for tiny fingers. Use outlet covers or plug protectors to prevent accidental electrocution. These covers are inexpensive and easy to install, offering a simple but highly effective solution.

2. Secure Heavy Furniture and Appliances

Toddlers love to climb, and unsecured furniture or appliances can pose serious risks. Use furniture straps or brackets to anchor heavy items like bookshelves, dressers, and TVs to the wall, reducing the chances of them toppling over. To secure my TV I bought a wall mount for it. I also bought a mount for my Apple TV and Remote because he likes playing with those.

3. Lock Away Hazardous Items

Cabinets containing cleaning supplies, medications, and sharp objects should be secured with childproof locks. Move these items to higher shelves if possible, and ensure that any chemicals are stored out of reach.

4. Soften Sharp Edges

Toddlers just love to run around all the time. Since they are so little they are more susceptible to bumping their heads on tables, counters, and other furniture. Bumping your head on sharp edges hurts. Put some edge bumpers on your furniture with sharp edges in case they bump their heads.

5. Install Safety Gates

Safety gates are invaluable for keeping young children out of hazardous areas like kitchens and staircases. Look for gates that are sturdy and easy for adults to open but challenging for children.

6. Safety Locks

Children love getting into cabinets and playing with whatever might be in there. I’ve tried using numerous kinds of locks. The Adhesive Magnetic Cabinet Locks have been the most effective to keeping my son out of the cabins.

7. Stove Knob Covers

My son used to grab at the stove knobs all the time. I don’t have to worry about him doing that anymore. I got a new stove. Not to keep my son from grabbing the knobs but because the stove broke. Buying a new stove with knobs on the back will work but it would be a lot cheaper to use stove knob covers.

8. Keep Batteries out of Reach

Batteries, especially button batteries. If a small lithium button battery becomes lodged in a child's throat and comes into contact with saliva, it initiates an electrical flow. This results in a chemical response that has the potential to cause significant burns to the esophagus within a mere two-hour timeframe. Furthermore, the harm caused by the battery can persist even after it has been successfully extracted.
